Same sex couples can now show their commitment to each other following the Civil Partnership Act which came into effect in December 2005. A Civil Partnership constitutes a legally binding contract and applies to couples aged 16 years and over. It entitles the couple to benefit from the same legal rights as those of heterosexual couples.

Ceremonies are conducted by a Registrar, as in a Civil ceremony, in a licensed venue of your choice. After the ceremony, the couple are legally referred to as "Civil Partners".
